Two ALMA Award Nominations!

Glee’s Naya Rivera, who plays a lesbian cheerleader named Santana Lopez, has been nominated for two ALMA Awards.

Rivera’s character is one of the main characters of the show that sparked a cultural phenomenon, making glee clubs in high schools across the country cool. The show, which first aired on Fox in 2009 and stars comedian actress Jane Lynch, attracts guest appearances from celebrities like Brittany Spears and Ricky Martin.

In the 2012 NCLR ALMA Awards, Rivera is up for Favorite TV Actress in a comedy and Favorite Female Music Artist. The 25-year-old actress of Puerto Rican descent won ALMA’s Favorite TV Music Artist award in 2011, but this year the competition is tough. In the Female Music Artist category she is is up against Jennifer Lopez—who is on tour with Enrique Iglesias promoting her latest album “Dance Again” — Demi Lovato, Gloria Estefan and Esperanza Spalding.

And in the Favorite TV Actress in a comedy are: “Modern Family’s” Sofia Vergara, “Shake it Up’s” Bella Thorn, Victoria Justice of Nickelodeon’s “Victorious” and Aubrey Plaza of “Parks and Recreation.”

Rivera is going to need her “Glee” fans to show their support online by voting. The winners of the awards are determined by fan votes and ratings on the show, film or song.

Rivera is no stranger to the spotlight. She made her television debut on “The Royal Family” sitcom at four-years-old and has since compiled a long-list of roles on hit TV shows such as “CSI: Miami,” “The Fresh Prince of Bel-Air,” “Family Matters,” and “The Bernie Mac Show” among others.

Rivera and the cast of “Glee” won a Screen Actors Guild Awards for Outstanding Performance by an Ensemble in a Comedy Series in 2010. The show has also won four Emmy Awards and three Golden Globes.

In May, Naya Rivera made People en Espanol’s list of “50 Most Beautiful.”

She is currently working on her debut album. Rivera revealed to fans at Comic-Con 2012 that her single “My Heart,” on her upcoming dance-pop album will be released soon.

The NCLR Alma Awards will be hosted by Eva Longoria and George Lopez and airs September 21 at 8 p.m. on NBC. Voting ends on September 7.
